The numerous collections within the ELIN
consortium are as varied as the libraries themselves. Of the five
libraries, four are public libraries who use the Dewey Decimal
System to catalog their books and one is an academic that uses the
Library of Congress System. As an academic library, NMJC’s
Pannell Library primary focus is
providing resources for college students, additionally they welcome members of
the community to utilize their collections just like their public
library counterparts.
All of the consortium-member libraries have
something special to offer. Lovington Public Library houses a rich
children’s book collection that contributes to their special summer
reading program, while Woolworth Community Library in Jal has a very
special collection revolving around golf legend and former Jal
resident, Kathy Whitworth. Eunice
Public Library hosts a unique Southwest collections containing
both books and antiquities harkening back to Lea County’s early
days. Hobbs Public Library features a Southwest collection with one
of the largest troves of local-area material in the county. NMJC’s
Pannell Library also serves as a government document depository,
which means they provide local, free access to information from the
Federal government in print and electronic formats.
The Hobbs Public Library owns microfilmed copies of back issues of the local newspapers, Hobbs News-Sun and Hobbs Flare. Patrons may view, and print articles from issues dating back to 1930 for Hobbs News-Sun and 1948-1998 for Hobbs Flare, by using the library's microfilm reader/printer. If patrons know the exact date that a particular article appeared in a paper, they may contact the library and request to have the article copied, scanned and e-mailed to them.
Library cards are free. However, there is a $5.00 fee to replace a lost card. Must have a valid ID and provide proof of residency. Your Estacado Library Information Network (ELIN) card may be used at any ELIN member library.
$2.00 fee will be charged for ELIN Loans which are requested and not picked up.
